If you have your own car, getting around Baguio is never a problem. But if you choose to commute, there are several things you have to consider.
Before anything else, make sure to have a map with you. We took the Victory Liner bus to get there. From Pasay, the fare costs P494. If you will come from other destinations, you may visit their site for other bus trips and schedules. The regular aircon bus takess 7 hours to reach the destination because it has two bus stops. You can also enjoy the Deluxe Bus, for a price of P710. It offers wider and more comfortable seats. There are two types of them. The first is the bus with a CR and the other one doesn't. The trip takes less than 6 hrs.
If you choose to go to Baguio during the peak hours, it would be easier to have a ticket reserved beforehand. If not, be prepared to wait for more than an hour just to get one.
To lessen stress, we also booked a room days before. But you can also find a lot of them as you go around the city.
As you go around the city, there are three ways you can actually use: a jeepney, cab or foot. You can find most of the jeepneys beside the Burnham Park. They have different destinations which include the famous tourist spots in Baguio: PMA, Mine's View, Lourdes Grotto, and a lot more.
If you are lost or just don't feel like waiting for a jeepney, you can find a lot of cabs going around. The flag down rate is only P25 and the whole trip will cost you a whole lot less than what you can expect. But beware of taxi drivers that will just go around to lengthen your trip. You can also hire one for the whole day. The usual rate is around P200/hour.
Walking is also fun. It is especially applicable for places with short distance. And besides, it can actually speed up your tour if the roads are too congested. For example, you can walk from Burnham Park to Baguio Cathedral or SM Baguio. From the Botanical Garden, Wright Park and The Mansion is only a walking distance. Make sure to check the maps for the location of the places you want to go to save time, money and effort and to maximize your stay.
So there. Me and my partner went to Baguio with almost no experience. It was his first time while I couldn't remember mine since it was years ago. We spent hours researching and browsing the map. If it is your first time, too, do not be afraid. As long as you have money and the courage to ask for directions, you can always reach your destination.
Hope you enjoy your trip as much as we enjoyed ours.
